My husband and I had a a wonderful dining experience at Sal's. The menu had a large selection of appy's and entree's. Having read the older reviews I need to say that they do not do a la carte any more. Our main meals came with either mashed or scalloped potatoes and mixed veggies. Oh and you get a bread basket with warm butter....delicious. Huge wine selection as well. Great dessert selection. Overall we had a great dinner and attentive service, we will definitely be back again and again!!!

can't anyone who dines at Sal's spell? or use spell check? Ah, Kelowna. Eat, shoots, leaves. (It's a book title, people)

I also was somewhat surprised at the dress of some of the clientelle, I thought to myself why did I dress nice, when these other people came in wearing shorts, t-shirts and sandals.
I agree with the previous critic, the constant questions in regards to the meal, drinks and dessert were a little too much.
The food I thought was very good for the price...we had the 3 course meal.
Good service, good food, I would return.

During our to trip to Kelowna, we wanted to go out for a very nice dinner.

We dicided to go to Sal's on Sunday. We were not disappointed. We had the Bourbon BBQ prawns which were amazing, Then I had the Tenderloin and my boyfirend had the New York Striploin. We also added lobster tails to our meal. The potatoes were amazing, the lobster was great, but I orderd my STeak Medium and my boyfriends was Medium Rare, his was perfect, however mine was rarer then his, they quickly fixed up my steak, no questions asked. We finished off with the Flourless Chocolate cake and Cheesecake, both were great. Our meals were worth their weight in gold.

The service was great, but a slight bit too attentive. Having every waiter, and the manager always asking made conversation difficult.

The restaurant was very clean and very nice. However we were quite disappointed to see small children, as well as people dressed in dirty/ratty clothing. We went to a nice restaurant, not McDonalds, or Boston Pizza. Other then that, our experience was great....

Then we used the restrooms. I was appalled to see that a restaurant so nice had a dirty ladies room. The door handles even had dried food on them. The counters, sink and toilet were clean but the floor was disgusting and the smell was horrendous. A mix of scented candles, scented oil, 2 Air Wick motion activated air fresheners couldn't hide the dirt smell mixed with ammonia and urine. I may expect a urine smell in a mens room, but not a ladies room. My boyfriend said he could not belive the amount of dust on the toilet paper dispeners, nevermind the stale smell,(he didn't have to deal with the airfresheners...)

We were very impressed with everything, minus the crying child, kids, and dirty clothed patrons... which we decided together as a oh well you can't always ensure all your patrons will dress right, and no children.

But the bathrooms left a sour taste in my mouth. With being asked every 5-10 minutes how our meal, drinks..... was all going...I am sure one of them could have cleaned the bathroom and we would have enjoyed some uninterrupted conversation.

Overall... Incredible food, Amazing Service(definatley attentive),but I hope you washed your hands before you got there and don't have to have to use the bathroom while you are there.

We would go again, and are excited to see the new menu the manager told us about, but I will check to see if they have cleaned the bathroom first next time.

We had visited Sal's in mid February. It was mid-week and the place was empty the entire evening we were there. They offered a $35 meal (starter, main, desert). Aside from the steaks, all other portions around our table were small. The risoto was floating in butter. Fish portions were barely larger than the size of a credit card. Half litre of wine $33 before those nasty liquor taxes. Would not return.

I tried Sal's for the first time since the new menu and was very pleased. The options expanded and the prices went down. I still ordered a steak, same great steak, but there is a lot more on the menu to chose from. I'll be back again. And as for Fresco's, it's a great place, but no more inexpensive than Sal's, smaller portions, and a totally different menu style. Both are great places to dine.

I thought we would try Sals again since they have had a year under their belt. Well Our night started with a very long wait just for a bottle of wine and a server that doesn't know much about wine red or white! Our Meals came but we had to wait again for the side dishes that we had to order separetly. The steaks were ok but our sides were luke warm. My wife was trying to enjoy are evening but it would be nice if we didn't have to compete with the rude noices coming from the kitchen area, why should a customer have to here arguing staff members. Will we be back i will spend my money where the staff are professional and curtious! try frescos

Sal's is a chain, part of the same group as Ric's Grill. You get average food and service for a high price. If you want great food go to Frescos but it will cost you even more.

If you want a lower price try some of the locally owned restaurants like Yamas, Christophers, Hector's or the Vintage Room.

Ive read all the comments posted so far and it seems most comments reflect the price of Sals Prime. I dined there last night with my husband and we enjoyed a 3 course dinner for only $39. Each course had a choice of at least three items and the food was delicious. There was also live music, a new thing on Friday night, and our service was great. I would go back again and I would recommend Sals to my friends and family. Excellent.

A glass of red wine and the creme brulee, it will take all your stress away and leave you in complete bliss. Never had better!

We have been to Sals many times, it is our Kelowna favorite. The food has always been excellent and have found the service to be very good, they recognize us from past visits and remember our favorite wine which is a nice touch. They are quite willing to prepare things off the menu so long as they are able. Not cheap by Kelowna standards but if this restaurant where in a major city its pricing would be prett normal for the quality that they offer.

Have visited Sal's on 4 different occasions. 3 of the 4 we have found that the menu pricing of the wine did not match that of our bill. In fact one bottle was $7 more on two different occasions as they had still not fixed the pricing in the computer. Once again last time we were there a glass of wine was $1.25 more on the bill (before liquor tax) than on the menu. So buyer beware and don't be afraid to request the menu to verify pricing when you receive your bill!

I so agree with the sharing thing. Had a friend come from Vancouver, none of us could decide what to have. My husband ordered a steak, ribs, and crab. They brought it all on one platter, and we split it up. It was unbelievable! We ordered a couple of sides too. Our friend was very impressed that we had dining like this in Kelowna. Our server was young, but very attentive, and helpful with our choices. Can't wait to go back!

My husband and I have been a few times now, and love the experience. We don't eat a huge amount of red meat anymore, but when we do, we want the best. So, we usually share a salad, and a steak. The wine list is fantastic. The side dishes are all so good, it's too hard to choose. We just don't eat as much anymore, and don't enjoy stuffing ourselves, so this is a great way to go. A nice bottle of wine, salad, steak, and a side - we're full, and the bill is very affordable. The staff is great - maybe some fine-tuning, but it's truly enjoyable because of the atmosphere, not stuffy!

I was fairly impressed to see such an outstanding venue in Kelowna. I have frequented the restaurant with friends, family and associates and I love the intimate decor and ambiance inside the restaurant. It may be a tad bit pricey, but well worth the experience and a definite cut above the average eatery in this town. I was also quite pleased to see organics on the menu as there aren't too many places in town that even offer this! The staff are always friendly and attentive and the choices of food make my mouth water as soon as I open the menu(even thinking about it makes me crave the oysters and monster crab legs). The wine list is incredible, and our server always seems to know the perfect wine to pair with our meals. Its the perfect place to go for an intimate night on the town, to treat yourself or someone special. I would definately reccomend it!

Sals Prime Steakhouse is exactly what the Okanagan needs. My friends and I dine out every weekend and we take turns on choosing the restaurant. We have our favourites and Sals is at the top, hands down! If you havent been let me tell you a little story about my life...I crave the jumbo lump crab. The fresh water oysters (need I say more) youve been to Shine or Rics! The sauces for the steaks I want to bottle up and take home the Kobe style brings tears to my eyes! Red wine I never know what to order, but they took us into their wine cellar to help us choose.

We need the range of restaurants, low mid high. I hate reading bad reviews when it only comes down to the buck. You used to have to drive to Vancouver for the high. We get a lot more sunshine and a better city to dine out in you must agree! You can spend a lot of money at any restaurant really, but at this restaurant you want to try everything.

We have many great restaurants in the Okanagan and we want to keep them here with us!

I have visited Sal's Prime Steakhouse several times since their grand opening earlier this year. I was so happy to see a high end restaurant in downtown Kelowna instead of having to take a far drive to a local winery producing a similar style of service and quality. Every visit to Sal's has provided amazing food, service, wine and atmosphere. If you are looking for a mid-range dining experience surrounded by families this is NOT where you want to go. But if you want to impress a date, business associate or family member this is the place to showcase the best food, wine, service and indoor dcor in all of Kelowna. Kudos to all the Sals Prime Steakhouse staff, keep up the good work, keep producing such high caliber dinning experiences and I will be coming in again soon for another fantastic dinner.

My wife and I were invited for a birthday party at Sals, which was a huge disappointment! I am totally aware of the difference in between eating and dining however, this experience was an absolute disaster. We ordered the Roast organic chicken which was absolutely tasteless, (it is pretty hard to mess up chicken). On the menu it did not mention that the entre came with vegetables, so we ordered a side dish of vegetables at $10.00. This side dish was supposed to be sauted and not steamed, and even steamed it felt as though it was raw.
Besides our unsatisfactory food, the birthday girls order was wrong and our friends Caesar Salad came without Parmesan cheese. This was a costly experience with very poor service and I dont plan on ever going back. I also wouldnt recommend this establishment to any of my friends.

Recently dined at Sal's & was very disappointed. Dinner for two couples was $375 with tip. The service was unattentive, we actually even had to send a dish back to the kitchen. My tenderloin steak was prepared as I requested, but without the sauce, wouldn't have been much taste to it. A side of veggies was $8.00, however, necessary when all your plate has on it is a hunk of salmon. Wouldn't go back & wouldn't recommend to anyone. Like the other writer, I would be surprised if it says in business.

2007-09-18 03:34:01

Absolutely RIDICULOUSLY over priced. And not worth the money in my opinion. Ric's is better. Better steak for sure. Everything is a la carte. $14 for mousse?? And steaks that start at $35 for the cheapest one. My boyfriend had a $45 steak - had NO seasoning whatsoever on it, needed to add salt. It was bland. Also, the Ahi Tuna which I had was ok. Again, nothing special for a $33 piece of tuna. 4 people - the bill was $325. Service was ok. $14 for a cesaer (drink). Really really expensive, which I don't mind, when it's worth it!!! Ric's is better - same owner. Actually - Fresco's is better than that for probably around the same prices. VERY disappointed. $8 to have a couple grilled vegetables added to my meal. Don't think it will last. Wasn't very full for 7 pm on a Saturday night - and at least at Ric's Grill you have a view. Wouldn't recommend.

Mediocre service and way over priced. Would be surprised if they are still in business next year

Excellent food, but pretty pricey!!! Would go back, though!!
